My New York Diary Blog #DayTwo

My alarm clock went off at 8.30am and I woke up not knowing where the HELL I was. Our hotel room has really good black out curtains and our room back at home is really light, so waking up in the pitch black with mild jet lag and after 12 hours sleep was weird. The dark made me think the alarm was wrong and I could go back to bed but we had to get up straight away and get ready. Sleeping for so long did us really good I think, sorted out the jet lag somewhat.

Rose and I hopped in the bath, washed our hair and grabbed our things, but we didn’t put on any makeup as the makeup artist from Smashbox was doing our makeup later that day. We didn’t eat any breakfast because Lindsay, the events organiser, had told us she would take us to the best bagel place in NY - and she wasn’t wrong.

We hopped in a cab and went to her apartment to meet her, then we all went to get tea, coffee and bagels. She took us to ESS-A for the bagels and the queue was CRAZY long so we just stood there for ages chatting. Rose and I had been sky ping Lindsay loads for months and months prior to the event to set things up, organise things being shipped and travel and hotels etc so we were already really good friends before we met. But as soon as we met in person, it was amazing, we got on so well. At the time I’m writing this it’s actually #DayThree and Lindsay is already invited to our wedding, a new best friend and helped us pick out our wedding dresses! We LOVE her and her college Kathleen! But I will talk more about that in another blog. So we stood in line gossiping, picked up our bagels and left to go to Jersey City.

Next we drove to Jersey City to start picking out the outfits we like from the Impulse Department for the models and ourselves. There were four models and they each had to have four looks each. Lindsay had hired a stylist as well to help us co-ordinate the outfits, but we ended up styling ourselves before she arrived. We had to pull looks from Ralph Lauren, Rachel Roy, Denim and Supply and others. So for an hour or so before people started arriving we walked around the store and put anything we thought was cute onto a huge rail one half stuff we liked for us to wear, one half for the models and then we took it out the back and started trying on and organising it all. We picked out outfits and left the rest of the clothes for the stylist to turn what we had picked into outfits for the models.

Then people started arriving so we went back to our dressing room. Lindsay and her colleague Kathleen had got us loads of platters of salads, cookies and biscuits, sandwiches for our dressing room but Rose and I always get a little nervous before events so we can never eat - but afterwards we are always STARVING. We were just chatting with Lindsay and her Kath in the dressing room, planning the rest of our trip and asking her where we should go out after. We planned to go to a restaurant in New York that Lindsay loves called The Smith.

Then the lady from Smashbox arrived to do our makeup and she was AMAZING. She walked in with these MASSIVE 80’s glasses on and I was like OH.MY.GOD WHERE ARE THEY FROM?! and made her write the name of the store down for me. She had so much style! Her makeup was so good, and she was just chatting to us and laughing, we were so relaxed! I’ll definitely be buying some primers and a BB cream from Smashbox because they worked really well on my skin and lasted all night. Here's a selfie I took right after I'd had my makeup done. I asked for smokey eye makeup.

After our makeup was done we met with the photographer Kristen who was so professional and lovely. She’d just had a baby two months ago so she brought her baby (and her husband to look after the her) and Rose and I spent ages cooing over her baby girl, taking turns to hold her and play with her. I don’t know what it is but babies LOVE me. Kristen told me her baby ALWAYS cries when someone else holds her but she just snuggled into me - what a sweetie! It made me so broody haha!

Then it was time for the meet and greet! Kathleen announced that we were about to come out and we walked out and got handed microphones by Kath. We said hi to everyone and welcomed them and thanked them for coming. We had girls driving hours to see us and a girl came from Australia! We also had a girl come all the way from Dubai to see us! It was so touching and almost unbelievable that people came all that way to see us. Lindsay gave all the people who travelled far her email so she could personally email them professional photos of us with them! People got to chat with us have photos taken professionally and on their phones, we gave them a signed headshot and VIP ticket holders got a free beanie from our merch - the beanies are limited edition - we don’t have those colours on our store! It was amazing meeting everyone that we would never have been able to meet had it not been for this event. Some people were HILARIOUS and cracked us up and then some people were quite serious and had touching moments with us. Everyone was so lovely and they all made friends with each other and hung out with each other which was awesome!

After the meet and greet all Rose and I could think about was FOOD and LET’S GET AN ALCOHOLIC DRINK IN MY BODY NOW. We hopped in the car and went straight to The Smith where we had a reservation for 9. We went in and ordered tequila shots and a bloody mary. The bloody mary’s over here are AMAZING! They make our English cocktails so bland. They really pack a punch and they taste SO spicy but also really pickle-y and horseradish-y. We drank those but the staff were taking ages to get our table ready and Lindsay hates waiting, so we left and walked a couple of blocks down to The Redhead.

The Redhead literally had the BEST food I’ve ever eaten in my entire life, it was EXQUISITE but I couldn’t tell you what it looked like because that place is PITCH BLACK. It was so dark, it would be a perfect place to go on a blind date because you are literally so blind in there. I had a gin and ginger beer and a dish that had pork and cherries with a vinaigrette it was so incredible I INHALED IT.

After dinner we started walking down some blocks to a place of Kathleen’s choice and then Kath pointed to Coyote Ugly. I think she was surprised at how excited we were to see it but Rose and I LOVE that film and we had to go in. Rose didn’t have ID on her but we sweet talked our way in with our British accents and started buying beers. When we walked in there were bras hanging from the ceiling and it said NO DICKS ON THE BAR on the wall!

Every beer came with a shot of fireball so we started getting trashed. Rose isn’t a big drinker so I had to drink so many of her shots for her. Lindsay and Kath kept telling me to dance on the bar and saying I had to because I was in New York and in Coyote Ugly and I just HAD to. I told her I was waiting for the right song. Then later when Rose and I were waiting to go to the toilet I heard ACDC’s You Shook Me All Night Long and I just dropped all my shit, RAN to the bar, climbed on in my giant heels with NO assistance and went for it. Lindsay filmed the whole thing and Rose just stood there watching with a massive grin on her face. When we started dating she came out clubbing with my friends a lot to get to know them and I always used to dance for her and she loved it. It had been a while since she’s come out and seen me do that and I know she loves that wild side to me. But I didn’t expect that MANY drinks later, she climbed on the bar too!

When we got down off the bar Lindsay and Kath had bought us Coyote Ugly T Shirts and had SIGNED them saying "best friends for ever, LC and Donniepants’’ which are their nicknames and Rose and I were hugging our T shirts like oh my god we love them so muchh!!! It was SUCH a fun night. We got a cab back around 3.30am and apparently when the doorman of our hotel asked to see our room key I just told him that “I just really need to piss” and he just let us straight up! I was sick and passed out in the bathroom (I always do this on a night out, I know my limit and then I just sail right past it) and apparently Rose and I drunkenly made a massive vlog for ages but it is completely unusable because I was NAKED the entire time. Then I lay in bed and I told Rose I felt sick so she brought me the bin and I was sick in the bin and passed out in bed. But I completely blame her for my hangover because she made me drink HER shots as well as mine.

And that was the end #DayTwo. I hoped you liked it! #DayThree is even better so stay tuned to hear about that and our wedding dresses and don’t forget to comment! Love you guys xxx

  20. Meeting you guys was such an awesome experience. Sometimes when you get the opportunity to meet someone you admire, it's a letdown. You find out they aren't like you imagine or they're putting on a persona for the camera. It was the complete opposite here, big hugs for everyone and chatting with you guys was so laid back. You definitely made me feel more like a friend than a fan. Thank you both for taking the time out of your vacation to spend some time with your fans. It's a day I'll never forget
